2007 machine-readable passport programme with NEC
In operation
NEC's corporate chronology identifies a machine-readable passport project launched with the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs in 2007. That company account identifies project participation but does not publish the contracting entity or its precise work package. 1 The Philippine Embassy in Canberra reported in October 2008 that domestic issuance had begun in July 2007 and overseas missions were transitioning to the system. It said passport production occurred in Manila. 2 This entry covers that historical machine-readable programme, not later chip-passport procurement. The cited sources do not disclose a contract price, duration or ownership provisions.
